Doula support at Wycombe Hospital (Birth Centre)

Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust · HP11 2TT

Standalone midwife-led birth centreHome birth team (Bucks)

Wycombe Hospital is home to a well-regarded standalone midwife-led birth centre serving families across High Wycombe, Amersham, Chalfont St Giles, Beaconsfield and the wider Buckinghamshire catchment. Higher-risk or transferred labours move to Stoke Mandeville for consultant-led care.

What to expect

On the day

The Wycombe Birth Centre is designed for physiological, low-intervention birth — pool rooms, active birth tools, low lighting, calm pacing. Eligibility is reviewed in late pregnancy; if criteria change you may be redirected to Stoke Mandeville or to your booked hospital.

My role

How I sit beside you here

For Wycombe births I support you through early labour at home, travel in with you, and stay continuously through birth and the first golden hours. If transfer to Stoke Mandeville becomes necessary, I travel with you and continue to hold the room — your continuity is the point.

Practical tips

Small things that make a real difference

  • 01Confirm Birth Centre eligibility from 34 weeks — criteria can shift with late-pregnancy findings.
  • 02Pack as if you might transfer to Stoke Mandeville; a second small bag in the car saves a scramble.
  • 03Ask your community midwife about realistic pool availability for your due window.
  • 04Discuss your preferred third-stage approach — physiological vs managed — explicitly in advance.
