Doula support at Wexham Park Hospital
Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust · SL2 4HL
Wexham Park, also part of Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, is the closest hospital to Windsor and the primary unit for families across Slough, Eton, Datchet, Maidenhead, Beaconsfield, Gerrards Cross and the surrounding South Bucks villages.
What to expect
On the day
Wexham Park runs a busy consultant-led labour ward alongside an alongside midwife-led unit. Birthing pools are available subject to room turnover. The home birth team supports planned home births in the local catchment. The unit is known to families locally for warm, experienced midwives — and like every NHS unit, for variable staffing pressure on any given shift.
My role
How I sit beside you here
Because Wexham Park is the closest unit to my Windsor base, I can usually be with you in under thirty minutes once labour establishes. I hold the early hours at home with you, support the decision of when to travel in, and stay continuously through labour and the first golden hours after baby arrives.
Practical tips
Small things that make a real difference
- 01Main entrance directions can be confusing in active labour — your partner should do a daylight dry run before 38 weeks.
- 02Ask early about pool availability for your due window; if water birth matters to you, a home birth or the MLU should be on the conversation table.
- 03The postnatal ward can be busy and bright; a sleep mask, earplugs and your own pillow help enormously.
- 04Bring your birth preferences printed and laminated — staff change shifts, and your wishes need to travel with you, not just live in a midwife's memory.
